Effloresce Pavilion

UC 4th year 2023

with Josep Campoy

EEnvisioned a pavilion for a site in Istanbul recently struck by an earthquake. This pavilion was intended to serve as a peaceful space for temporary housing residents to come together, meditate, and build a sense of community. To ensure sustainability, we will collect 3D printing material from destroyed houses, which will be completely biodegradable. The pavilion will no longer be necessary once the city returns to its former state. By the time the city is rebuilt, the pavilion will have degraded. The pavilion’s flower design was inspired by the intricate patterns found in Turkish mosques, and the wall’s linear form is intended to minimize noise. Each module will be printed in a facility and later assembled on-site. The structure is exceptionally light after drying from printing, making transport a non-issue. Additionally, using wood allows for the growth of greenery and mushrooms, potentially serving as a resource for the community after natural disasters.
