”Materials should have a relationship with the natural environment. My architecture is an effort to find this relationship.” - Kengo Kuma

This architectural design aims to infuse joy into the construction process. Typically, buildings evolve from bottom to top in a sequential completion process. However, what if the completion were to start at the base? This bathhouse unfolds through three distinct lifetimes: first as a sculpture, then as a resource, and finally as a bathhouse.

It creates a cave-like space seamlessly merging with nature. Plant seeds are embedded in the wood section of the printing; when sunlight reaches the wood, it becomes a resource for natural creatures. The surrounding water accelerates the decomposition process. Envision animals entering the bathhouse, all against the scenic backdrop of Mount Fuji. Within this building, you connect profoundly with nature—sensing the changing seasons, feeling the rain, and experiencing the snow. Located in Japan, renowned for its onsen culture, this bathhouse promises a distinctive and immersive experience.
